Who we are

Vergeer Holland – enterprising and innovating since 1934

Vergeer and cheese are inextricably connected to each other as the family from Reeuwijk already made cheese in the 17th century. The current company was founded in 1934 and, over the years, has grown into a very innovative cheese processor. Still, it remained a family business.

Since 1642 the family Vergeer has been located in the town of Reeuwijk in the province Zuid-Holland. In 1934 Dirk Vergeer started selling the traditionally prepared cheese his parents made. At first only in the surrounding areas, but soon also in the south (Limburg) and the west (Achterhoek) of the country. During World War II the cheese production stagnated, but in 1945 the business took off again at full speed. Vergeer opened distribution sites at several locations and also bought manufacturer’s cheese which they themselves matured.

With the rise in the number of supermarkets and self-service businesses in the sixties the demand for pre-packed cheese strongly increased. It appeared to be a real growing market and for that reason Vergeer decided to invest in space and machines. At the end of the seventies they even started importing cheese from France. For a number of years now the activities have been expanded with the processing of cheese into slices and grating cheese.

Currently Vergeer Holland has about 600 employees and has locations in Reeuwijk, Woerden and Bodegraven. We belong to the largest cheese packaging plants in Europe and, according to experts, to the best. Our clients are located in all of Europe, Canada, Asia and the Middle East.

However, no matter how international we have become, we are still firmly rooted in Reeuwijk, the place where it all started. Also Vergeer Holland remains a family concern, in which by now the third generation is actively enterprising. Progress seems to be created entirely with the family Vergeer in mind.
